JAMMU: In continuation with the theme-based Sampark events to its legacy of social welfare programme, the Indian Army organised an artificial limb camp for specially-abled persons at Mahore with assistance from Kiwanis Club, an NGO based in New Delhi.
“In addition, distribution of computers and school bags was also carried out for the school children, but the event was mainly aimed to heal the specially-abled person to help them to defeat the disability,” PRO Defence Udhampur said, adding, “Total of 30 specially-abled individuals including women and children from Mahore as well as from the area of Gulabgarh and Gool were identified who were leading a restricted life.”
“The camp was aimed to enable and empower specially-abled individuals to lead a normal and independent life, Defence spokesperson said, adding, “During the camp, specially-abled persons were provided with artificial limbs, wheel chairs and crutches.”
“The camp has been appreciated by the locals who expressed their gratitude towards the Indian Army and the NGO for organising the camp for the underprivileged on such a large scale,” he added.
“Moreover, total of ten computers and 78 school bags were also distributed to the children of Government Higher Secondary School, Government Middle School, Bal Ashram orphanage and Pir Panchal School in order to improve the quality of education,” Defence spokesperson said.
Defence spokesperson said, “The event would go a long way in winning hearts and minds of local populace and strengthening the bond between the Indian Army and Awam.”
